Housing & Hospitality Services:
Logos against photo backgrounds

These Housing & Hospitality Services brochures illustrate a solution to a common problem: how to use the logo against photos and other complex backgrounds.

On the Dining Services brochure, the designer was combining a close-up of food with a much more distant shot of a dining room. The black band helps to separate the two very different perspectives. By using the "boxed" version of the logo, the designer separates it from the photo and brings it visually a bit closer to the viewer.

The photo used for the University Apartments brochure doesn't need a separate band for type, because the wall space is relatively neutral. But the "boxed" version of the logo stands out - and using the same treatment helps relate the two different brochures. In fact, there's a whole series of Housing & Hospitality Services brochures, with a similar format and logo treatment.

Thanks to Housing & Hospitality Services, Frank Montana, Manager, Community Housing & Outreach.
