From the Chancellor
To the UCLA Community:
Early in my tenure as chancellor, I was shown two collections of campus publications and web designs. The first set was a hodgepodge of different UCLA logos and colors developed prior to the introduction of a UCLA graphic identity. The second set involved the identity system introduced through University Communications. This collection was much more cohesive and coherent because the same UCLA logo and colors linked the different publications and sites. The overall effect was not corporate uniformity, but vitality and variety within a strong family.
Since then, I have noticed the UCLA logo on items large and small, from the shuttle buses and vans to the pay-station parking receipts. I even saw the logo in Asia, on my recent travels. The UCLA name is known and respected worldwide. By adopting a common graphic identity, we reinforce the breadth of our teaching, research and public service enterprise, visually linking the UCLA Health System to UCLA Arts to UCLA College and so on.
Some units have not yet updated their graphic materials since the introduction of the new identity system. I ask that when units update their materials, they implement the UCLA institutional graphic identity system at that time.
My thanks to all the campus units that adopted the institutional graphics. I appreciate your continuing participation as we work together to advance UCLA.
Sincerely,
Gene Block
Chancellor
